Speaker Spotlight – Norm O’Reilly

Management at Syracuse University. He is concurrently – for the 2009-2010 academic year – a visiting scholar and lecturer at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Formerly director of the School of Sports Administration at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, O’Reilly is an accomplished academic who holds B.Sc., MA, MBA and PhD degrees, and the CGA designation. From 2006 to 2009, O’Reilly served as the director of the Institute for Sport Marketing (ISM), a vibrant research centre at Laurentian. He maintains a strong research relationship with the ISM. O’Reilly is an active researcher and an accomplished teacher, who is involved with the industry as a consultant and a board member.

As a researcher, O’Reilly has published more than 40 refereed management journal articles and 3 books in the areas of sport management, marketing, sport finance, and social marketing. A major publication of O’Reilly’s is the Canadian Sponsorship Landscape Study, which he unveiled at the 2007 Forum. In 2010, O’Reilly will present the latest (and 4th) edition of the Study at the Forum, complete with updated information and the most recent data available. His Sponsorship Landscape Study is fast becoming an industry Bible and is always a highlight of the Forum.

As an educator, O’Reilly has taught at the B.Com, M.A. and MBA levels at Laurentian, Ryerson, Syracuse, Stanford and the University of Ottawa. He also has extensive involvement as a sport practitioner, including senior policy officer at Sport Canada, director with the Canadian Olympic Committee, event manager for the Toronto 2008 Olympic Bid and as an administrator on Canada’s Mission Staff at the 2004, 2008 and upcoming 2010 Olympic Games.
